Conor McGregor - "The kid from Dublin with more than a dream", is returning to the MMA scene!

He went from the top of the tree to a disgraced and beltless MMA fighter - see how the Notorious clawed his way back to the MMA right here.

In a historic return at the T-Mobile Arena in Nevada, on the 18th of January 2020, McGregor took the world by surprise and defeated Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone against all odds! And it took him only 40 seconds!

With a series of shoulder strikes, McGregor ended the fight with a kick knockout.

The victory was his first since 2016 and Conor McGregor had not been fighting since he lost against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 on October 6 of 2018. He officially announced his retirement from UFC in March 2019.

Looking Back at The Fall of McGregor

The announcement by McGregor that he retired from UFC came during a period of what seemed to be a losing battle against himself. The slippery road started directly after the loss against Khabib. Both McGregor and Khabib were banned from Nevada and lost their belts due to the fight that erupted after the game.

It was the beginning of a personal and professional slope that never seemed to end. He proceeded to engage in just bizarre behavior over the following months and years, almost like he’d just lost his way. We believe it can’t be easy to achieve such a high level of fame, but he was looking well and truly off the rails.

During the months after the fight, McGregor continued to attack Khabib via social media. He was quoting his wife as being a ‘towel’, for her wearing a religious dress during their Islamic wedding. Then news emerged of sexual assault charges that were facing the superstar, coming from claims that were a bit closer to home in Ireland.

There was even a lady who claimed that McGregor had fathered her child, although to this day it hasn’t been confirmed. McGregor was then involved in a punch up in a Dublin bar, where he seemed to punch an innocent elderly man following a dispute. All the signs were there that McGregor had given up on his professional life, and that he was engaging in behavior that would ensure he would never return to the UFC.

During 2019, McGregor was arrested for assaults both in Florida (criminal charges dropped May 13) and in Dublin where he pleaded guilty in court on 11 October, to punching a man at a local pub. As the scandals piled up, few believed McGregor would ever return to professional MMA.

The Return to UFC

Despite the scandals, the " kid from Dublin" had other plans. During 2019 he updated his social media with tweets from the gym, hinting he was planning a professional return. Few believed it would actually happen until October 2019, when it was officially announced he would return to the octagon in a fight against Cerrone in January of 2020.

With an MMA record of 21 wins, 4 losses and the first fighter to hold belts in two weight categories at the same time, McGregor has had an impressive professional career but it just wasn't enough. People around him say "being a world champion means everything to him".

After the historical victory against Cerrone, McGregor is now the first fighter in UFC with a kick knockout victories at three weight categories: Featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight
